Our people count

Established in 1935 and employee-owned since 2015, we are very proud of all that we have achieved in our history so far. We’re also extremely proud of our people and the way that we work together as a team.

Our mantra has always been to care about how we do business. We care about our ethical standards and how we interact with our suppliers and customers, and also how we care about each other. Coming to work might be a financial necessity, but it should be rewarding in other ways. The relationships that we build with each other are important for our wellbeing and our sense of satisfaction at the end of a good day’s work.

Demonstrating care in meaningful ways is one of our core values and is central to our ethical approach. We work hard to be a truly caring business to work for, benchmarking ourselves against other organisations and many of the most stringent independent UK accreditations.

In 2017, we were reaccredited with IIP Gold, achieving an outstanding 192 evidence points out of 196. With just 16% of UK organisations achieving IIP Gold and only 22 organisations in Stockport, this is an achievement that we are very proud of.

In 2018, we became an accredited Living Wage employer, underlining our value of care for all our people. In 2019, we were ranked 19th UK Best Workplace and 5th Best Workplace for Women™ by Great Places To Work™, confirming our commitment to become a high trust, high performing workplace.

It’s also very important that the skilled people who make our garments work in safe and responsible environments. Thanks to the dedication of our overseas team, we’re also striving to achieve greater transparency in our supply chain.

Rowlinson Knitwear has been an ethical business for a long time. True to our values of trust, care and be better, we’re proud to have achieved so much. Whether we’re manufacturing safe, high quality clothing, caring for all colleagues and workers in our overseas operations or reducing our environmental impact, we care deeply about our actions. However, we know there is much more to do.

We are dedicated to evolving ethical and modern day slavery governance throughout our supply chain. In our first year operating within the scope of our Modern Day Slavery Statement (2018), senior colleagues undertook comprehensive training on modern day slavery and effective due diligence work. In this second year, we have set out a detailed plan of action to help us improve our understanding of our supply chain. It matters deeply to us that we achieve greater transparency, so that we can take appropriate and decisive action to mitigate the risks of modern day slavery in our supply chain.
